Mountainside torrent kills 10 lumber workers

Ten lumber workers were killed in a mountain torrent triggered by rain in southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, local authorities said on Saturday.

A rainstorm hit Zubie Town, Xilin County, on Thursday night. The rain created a torrent that poured down the mountain and engulfed a work shed in the forest, killing the 10, according to the regional civil affairs department.

Rescuers had recovered all the bodies as of Saturday.

The workers, four male and six female, were all from Longlin County and had been employed by a private company, it said.

No other casualties or economic losses have been reported, it said.
